Matthew is a pianist, organist, and composer who has performed in many venues across the United States and Europe. An expert in Alexander Technique and injury prevention for keyboardists, Matthew teaches our technique classes in addition to private lessons.

Joshua Sobel
Artistic Director, COO, Professor of Theory and Keyboard Interpretation
Joshua is an organist, pianist, and improviser who has been praised for his “ease and confidence” at the keyboard. He is also an avid composer and improviser, notably improvising a three-voice fugue as a church prelude at the age of six. Joshua teaches private lessons as well as music theory classes for the Duruflé Academy.

Kelsey Carlisle
Assistant Professor of Piano, Professor of Jazz Studies
Kelsey is an avid performer of classical, blues, and jazz music on the piano. He has toured extensively around the US and has been praised for his authentic and exciting interpretations of 20th-century American music. Kelsey teaches private lessons for the MDA, as well as coaching students specifically on jazz, blues, and modern American music.

Carlene Soderberg
Professor of Cello, Lecturer on Modern Music
Carlene Soderberg is a cellist and devout interpreter of modern music. She has performed a variety of repertoire throughout the United States and has been praised for her “daring and innovative interpretations“. The world of modern classical music is her focus. She has premiered new music by composers such as Benjamin Cauley and Michael Mikulka. Her passion for playing and programming works by living composers extends from chamber music to solo repertoire.
