Piano at the MDA
While the Academy piano program primarily focuses on solo performance, it also places an emphasis on chamber music, accompanying, and teaching. The well-rounded curriculum prepares graduates to make their way in today’s highly competitive music world.
A unique feature of the Duruflé piano department is the close collaboration between piano faculty members. Students have regular opportunities to play in master classes and receive supplemental lessons and chamber music coaching from faculty other than their major studio teachers. Additionally, many internationally acclaimed guest artists visit the School as part of the Piano Recital Series, giving recitals, lectures, and master classes.
The Duruflé Academy has access to regularly maintained pianos in all recital halls, studios, churches, facilities, and practice rooms; most of which were designed by Steinway.

“But it’s peculiar, as soon as I am in the midst of nature and by myself, everything that is base and trivial vanishes without trace. On such days nothing scares me; and this helps me again and again. What is best in music is not to be found in the notes.”
Gustav Mahler
